Magazines
Periodicals of the NMLRA
Every builder, collector, or shooter of muzzle loaders should join the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association (NMLRA). Membership will put you in contact with other people who share your interests including the monthly magazine Muzzle Blasts which contains valuable information for all those interested in muzzle loaders. The NMLRA also publishes the Journal of Historical Armsmaking Technology. These are published as material and funds are available. Currently, there are five volumes. I strongly suggest that anyone who is serious about building longrifles acquire the entire set. Unfortunately, only Volumes III and IV are currently available from the NMLRA, and these are probably the least useful of the five being primarily a translation of a period German text on gun building. I suggest that you try Alibris or abebooks.com for the other volumes. Contact the NMLRA at (812) 667-5131 to join or place an order.
Muzzleloader
Another good magazine for those interested in building or shooting longrifles as well as 18th and 19th century life and history is Muzzleloader. Muzzleloader is published bi-monthly and costs $18.00 a year. Call (800) 228-6389 to order a subscription.
